i did sumthng ive never done before !

and that's to bake bread !

think it was much easier than i thought.the dough was kinda sticky at first but it got easier to manage with the later rolls i made.

here's the bread i made !

left to right : ba kua with pork floss filling, mixed fruit roll topped with choc chips, cranberry sticks

and this fella's the apple and cranberry ring !

whee.think ive been having a pretty good time since my first job ended.just waiting for the second one now =)

went to the esplanade on 人日 and somehow stumbled upon the fireworks display.hehe and we didnt even need to crowd with the ppl ! and the view was fantastic !

and went to Island Creamery for the first time with cheryl and oslyn.ah ping has been telling us so much abt it but we never had a chance to go ! think the ice cream there is pretty nice and affordable too.but they could so with nicer flavours.maybe exotic ones with alcohol or more innovative flavours.we had a triple scoop consisting of black sesame, nutella and cookies and cream except that it has a chocolate base with the cookie bits.and it only cost 6bucks ! well well, we should go there sometime =)

feeling kinda apprehensive abt the release of results.sometimes i shld just leave things to fate.

so ive completed my 3 wk stint at dbs liat towers ! what can i say ?

HOORAY !

another landmark in my life =)

so what have i learnt in these 3 wks ?

1. People come in all shapes, sizes and personalities
2. The well dressed may not mean the most well behaved
3. Working at the bank is NO joke
4. Chinese New Year = HELL ! (for those working)
5. Some customers think they own the bank
6. Cisco guards aint what they seem
7. Wearing comfortable shoes is especially important while standing for 8h+ each day
8. Never take things personally
9. Eating at orchard is CUT THROAT !
10. Ang mo and jap ladies also like to change for new notes !

yeah that's abt it.

i think i cant ever go into a bank without thinking such things again.

reminds me, that day i was taking 132 home from the thai embassy bus stop after work and passed by the cj bus stop.these two guys got on and they were talking abt sch and work. the gist of the conversation is as such :

(they're having first three months anyway)

guy 1: i wanted to withdraw from sch but my mom wont let me.some of my classmates already withdrew.

guy 2: ah why u want to withdraw?

guy 1: then i can go work ! 做工有什么不好?

me (thinking): ERRR. too bad they havent seen the real world yet.

well.i guess i was like that 2 yrs ago too.

thinking abt that makes me feel old.imagine that 2 years of aj life went past in a flash ! *zoom* hard to imagine i was in their shoes just 2 short years ago.

since it's chu san of CNY, thought i would share this recipe i found online.if i had time i would have tried making them myself too ! =)

Pine-Apple Tarts for Chinese New Year
in Diana's Recipe Book

Servings: 25

Ingredients:

For the Filling

2 large cans (20 ounces each) plus 1 small can (8 ounces) crushed pineapple in juice
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 cinnamon sticks

For the Pastry

4 tablespoons cream cheese
1/2 cup (113 grams/4 oz/1 stick) unsalted butter
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
2 eggs plus 1 yolk mixed with 2 teaspoons water (divided)
1 teaspoon baking soda mixed with 1 teaspoon water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt

Decoration (optional)

25 to 30 whole cloves

Instructions:

For Pineapple Filling:
Drain crushed pineapple in a sieve, squeezing out as much juice as possible. Place pulp in heavy pot with granulated sugar and cinnamon sticks and stir over medium-low heat about 1 hour, until sugar begins crystallizing on inside of pot. Remove and let cool.

For the Pastry:
With an electric mixer, beat together cream cheese, butter and confectioners' sugar at medium-high speed. Add 2 eggs, baking soda mixture and vanilla and beat until incorporated. At lowest speed, add flour and salt until mixed well and dough begins to form ball. Refrigerate dough for 30 to 60 minutes before assembling tarts.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 C).

To Assemble the Tarts:
Pinch off piece of dough to form 1-inch round ball by gently rolling in palm of your hand. Flatten to about 1/8 inch or 21/2 inches in diameter. Place 1 heaping teaspoon pineapple filling in center of dough. Slowly gather outer edges until it comes together like a little purse. Smooth edges and roll in your hand slightly to round it off. Place gathered side down on baking sheet. Repeat until dough is used up, making about 25 rounds. Brush each with egg yolk and water mixture and place clove on top (optional), claw side down, to resemble an apple stem. Bake 20 minutes in center of oven until golden brown. Let tarts cool completely.

Variation For open-faced tarts, omit the cloves. Press 1-inch ball round of dough into mini-muffin tin and fill with pineapple. Cut 11/2 x1/16-inch strips and make a double crisscross over the top. Brush with egg wash and bake 25 minutes until bottom is cooked through.

Makes about 25 tarts.

HAPPY VDAY TO ALL ~!

though my vday is just as normal and placid as any of the 18 vdays ive had in my life.haha.BUT i spent it serving customers at the bank and filling up the cash exchange forms.now THAT'S a change =p

anyway the customers are better this week.i shouldnt say that so fast though.correction: the customers are better this week SO FAR.cant tell what's gonna happen tml and friday.

but some of them complain about ridiculous things.at least it's ridiculous to me.

eg 1.
At the unearthly hour of 9am, a customer wants to complain about the cap we set at changing $2 notes (max of $400).

customer aka kfc lady: what's the max u can change for $2 notes?

me: that would be $400

kfc: wo what if people want to change more than $400 ? like more $2 notes? do they have to requeue again?

me: sometimes they requeue, but because it's per customer per day it's better if they come back the next day

kfc: that's ridiculous ! give me a feedback form.

so that's it.another irritated customer by the bank policy.

eg 2.
When i fill up the cash exchange form (when people use old notes to change for new)

customers: why is this needed?

or

customers: im here right, why do u need my name and contact?

or

customers: i dont want to give my phone number !

or

customers (the most irritating today): you're not making things any easier !

me (thinking): HELLO.then what am i here standing for the extended one hour trying to help you fill up the damn form! you can jolly well fill it up yourself !

unappreciative idiots !

i guess that's what some singaporeans are like.now i see the real world.

so i got scolded by a customer today.AND IT WASN'T EVEN MY FAULT.

scenario: i take down the lady's order of what notes she wants to change and she lines up in the queue (which is not that long as compared to other times).there's this other gentlemen behind her.

after a while, she gets impatient.

lady (demading): why is the queue taking so long? the old man has been at the counter for a long while already.he's holding up the queue.

me: oh because some of them are changing notes and not just the prosperity pack, so we need time to count the notes.he should be done in a few mins.

lady: you know time is very important to us? we're not employers of the bank (meaning that we, or even i being an employer can afford to 'waste' all my time in the bank).

the guy behind: yes, time is very precious to us, time is money (stupid idiot is just fanning the fire).

lady: you know i can just stand at the side of the counter and ask for 10 $50 notes instead of queuing here.

me (thinking to myself): who the HELL are you to demand we serve you first.

but i say,

me: i understand (i dunno what else to say).

lady: you just stand here and say 'i understand', but u dont even go to the front to check what is happening! (THAT MADE ME DAMN PISSED)

me: excuse me ma'am, this is already the designated queue and it's the express queue for changing notes.and even if it is slow, it's got NOTHING to do with me cos it's between them and not me (walks off to attend to another customer).

STUPID IDIOTS !

roar.

mom said i should have said 'if u dont want to queue, i suggest that u come back when we open tml at 8.30am'.that should have put her in place.

but there are nice people too.like this nurse at mount e whim i spoke to before and had quite a long talk today.she resembles my mom in ways.such as views on certain issues.interesting !

and thus i conclude,

i shall think twice before applying for customer service again.

i heart
Duffy - Distant Dreamer

Even when you
See me frown
My heart
Won't let me down
Because I know
There's better things
To come

And when life
Gets tough
I feel
I've had enough
I hold on to
A distant star
