Ham, cheese best breakfast
Photography by Mark O'Meara

Eating ham and cheese for breakfast is the ideal way to start your day, according to researchers in Wales.

Scientists at
Swansea University found that the traditional German breakfast improved both memory and attention span, and resulted in a higher work rate.

The study was based on the
glycaemic load (GL) of different breakfasts, and the researchers observed and analysed a group of children at school after they ate breakfasts of varying GL scores over the course of a month.

They found that the pupils performed best on the low GL breakfast of ham and cheese while breakfasts with a high GL, such as cornflakes with sugar, a waffle and maple syrup, led to mid-morning slumps.

Lead researcher Professor David Benton said the results also applied to adults and that a low GL breakfast could also help to prevent obesity by curbing snacking.

Your Icecream Flavour is...Neopolitan!
You aren't satisfied with just one flavor. They say variety is the spice of life and this shines through in your Ice cream of choice! Just don't eat all the chocolate and leave the strawberry and vanilla behind!

lunch at Staples (retaurant above pantec), which sold japanese and western food ! i think the food wasnt too bad and the portions were HUGE.taking into account the big breakfast i had this morning, i am seriously bursting haha.

anyway we thought that monday was gonna be sharon's last day, and hence the two huge meals in a day.turns out she's gonna extend till mid july ! oooh wow so i wont have to worry abt taking over her stuff and not knowing what to do =p

and thanks to my manager See Mai for treating us to lunch !

FRIDAY !

this wk has been quite a scary wk esp wednesday.my smallest sis went to camp wed morning (supposed to be a 3day npcc camp) and then after we had dinner at ikea (yummy meatballs, chicken wings, dessert and all), the tchr in charge suddenly called to say my sis wasnt well and she was shivering and feeling cold.so we rushed over to nanyang to find her lying in a stretcher in the foyer.goodness.

so i had to practice first aid and let her step on my foot to the car.i dunno why but she was practically immobilised.and we rushed her off to raffles medical hospital and she had to get two drips on the spot.luckily she's alright.and then we saw this scary guy who came in yelling like some insane person.i think he was having a seizure or fit or sumthng of that sort.and his screams were so inhuman *shivers*

one more week of work ! and i'll be free (but not from uni stuff).yayyyyyyyyyyyy.

How to Deal With an Office Jerk
Robert M. Detman, for Yahoo! HotJobs

Digg Office life can have its ups and downs, but having to endure a jerk can make it miserable. Office jerks take on many forms, and thus require creative strategies for dealing with them.

Handling Six Common Types

The Loud Phone-Talker. "Obviously the first step is to pull them aside quietly and ask them to lower their voice when using the phone," says Julie Jansen, a career coach, consultant, and trainer. "If this doesn't stop them, you could dish out the same treatment and stand near their cube on your cell phone and talk loudly. Or you can hold up a sign that says, 'Please turn volume down.'"

The Hang-Arounder. When confronting the co-worker who chronically lingers to chat when you are trying to make a deadline -- a subtle jerk, but a jerk nonetheless -- try standing up when they enter your office or cube. "The unspoken message of your body language will clearly tell him or her to keep it brief and head for the door," says Ken Lloyd, author of "Jerks at Work: How to Deal With People Problems and Problem People."

The Idea Stealer. There is a strong possibility that this jerk can't distinguish between a good idea and a bad one. "Somewhere along the way, slip in a really bad idea and let the jerk steal that," Lloyd says. However, beware that this might only encourage the jerk to become worse.

The Meeting Monopolizer. Get creative. "Try eliminating the chairs and making it a standup meeting," Lloyd suggests. The monopolizer will likely get thrown off and won't have time to settle into the usual routine of unproductive dominance.

The Bully. Remember, you're not in high school anymore. "Hold your ground and refuse to be bullied," says Steve Piazzale, a career and life coach who runs BayAreaCareerCoach.com. "They'll usually back off over time."

The Boss. Sometimes dealing with a jerk should not be your problem, particularly if you have a manager who is a jerk. In this case you might take a look around the company and notice several jerks. "This may be part of the company culture," Piazzale says. "In which case get out!"

More General Coping Strategies

Passive. Avoidance is the most obvious solution if you don't want a confrontation with any type of office jerk. "You can go to your boss and ask him to intervene," says Jansen. Or, if things are really unbearable, you could ask to be relocated to another part of the office.

Active. Avoidance can backfire if the jerk continues the annoying behavior. Try talking to the person. "Difficult people don't always know they're being difficult," Jansen says. "People generally don't have a very high level of self-awareness, so specific and constructive feedback is important."

If you must confront a jerk, it is wise to take the high road. Career coach Piazzale says, "Try to understand where the behavior is coming from, and tailor your response to that."

heyo im back !

back to sunny singapore with the sweltering heat and humid weather.which may be a good change cos my skin is feeling all dry and is starting to flake.a little humiditiy will do it good =)

anyway put up some of the pix you'll probably never see on my friendster profile.like all the pictures of the food (which explains and justifies my horrible weight gain) and pictures of the breathtaking scenery (including birds) haha.so sit back and enjoy !

PART I
ADELAIDE

we stayed three days in adelaide and it was a kinda rushed affair, but luckily there wasnt much to cover since we just visited last june.

that's the cam whoring session on the first morning we arrived.the usual standard one-ice-cream-per-day thing =p

a rainbow after the rain ! it was kinda drizzly the first day we were there.funnily we went to kfc for lunch cos there wasnt much of a choice.

we stayed at westbeach again where we stayed last year, and that's our fav part of staying there- the jumping pillow ! it's like this inflated float where you can jump and bounce on it.and best is the weather is so cold you wont even sweat.

in adelaide central market (which we also went to last year).i finallie know what's rhubarb ! kinda resembles celery but it's red.mom says it's reallie sour (explains why they usually use is in baked products).

and parsnips ! it's sumthng like white carrot.but it has a creamier texture and tastes like radish.

coffee at Cibo (well renowed) where mom couldnt resist the chocolate and summer berries gelato.

and yoghurt from mom's fav yoghurt shop.it's a chain shop but the one sold in central market is especially nice.it's with raspberries, blueberries and blackberries.reallie good and brimming with fruit.best part is the berries are so soft that they get squished and form the 'sauce' in the yoghurt.

Part II
SYDNEY
Town

spent another three days in the town of sydney where our accomodation was right smack in the middle of town, but cost us AZ$300 per night.and there were students staying in that apartment for 2-3 years already.wow their parents must be reallie rich.

we went to the huge aquarium and the wildlife park, where everythng is found behind glass panels so there's no smell at all.can you see the baby koala? i waited ages for a photo but the mommy just kept blocking her baby with her foot.awwwww.

it was such a sunny day and we were making our way to The Rocks for the sunday market.luckily sydney harbour bridge was just on the other side and not too far a walk away.

and the opera house ! it looks white from this angle but up close, it's actually brownish.

and thanks to my donut king, we enjoyed these cute yummy little donuts =)

some structure which mom found pretty, and hence the picture.

Port Stephens

spent another three days at port stephens which is abt 3-4h drive from sydney.it's along the coastline and there's activities like whale and dolphin watching, and plenty of ppl doing fishing right outside at the jetty.quiet little place where all the shops closed at 5pm, leaving us with nothing to eat for the first night (other than the takeaways).

we stayed at Helifax holiday park and our cabin's called Cutty Sark.it's a pretty cosy cabin but the downside is there's just one bathroom (alright all except the one in sydney town and blue mountains had two bathrooms).

the beautiful sunset on the first night we were there.i love how the colours just blend in like a rainbow.

kookaburras invaded our territory ! i guess they havent seen anyone having lunch outside their cabin before.

our lunch spread with the bird in sight.
and when we all got freaked out by it's swooping down to grab our food antics and moved in, other than my sis and dad (and bird).

and the little lorikeets which came for the raisin bread we put on the railings.they kept coming day after day to check whether we still left any stuff for them.

we took a ferry out to the Tea Gardens (which is the name of a place, not some exotic tea plantation). there was nothing much there either, except that we had lunch at the restaurant overlooking the bay.seafood platter cost AZ$19.95 which was quite a good price for the quality, but the creme brulee was the killer.okay i admit it was reallie good but it was near AZ$10 PER creme brulee.

and mom's fav oysters done with bacon and worchester sauce.so the total bill for lunch came up to near AZ$100 (cos of the three creme brulees) which was quite shocking.

back near our cabin where the ppl go out to fish in their boats and the shack is where they clean their fish.amazingly the govt has given them the facilities such as the sinks and bins to clean and throw away the leftovers.i mean maybe it's not neccessarily with all the pelicans and gulls picking up the leftovers.some guy caught a marlin which was abt 90kg and he was cutting it up right there and then on the floor, and he offered everyone a chunk of the meat.we got three fillets and weirdly, it's reallie tough like chicken after it was cooked.

on the last night with another beautiful sunset.

Blue Mountains

spent one day up the mountain, and luckily we did cos it was freezing cold and we werent expecting such cold weather.it was raining throughout the 2-3h drive from port stephens, which didnt help when we couldnt see the signboards.and it was reallie foggy where we stayed, such that we could hardly see even beyond the house window.

we had lunch at a little restaurant and decided to try some of the specialities there.so we had scones which were light and fluffy (like pancake texture) not like those we get here which are stone hard.and the double cream and strawberry jam were lovely compliments.

pumpkin soup with loads of cinnamon.it was nice and warm and especially good for the freezing weather.

potato wedges with sour cream and chilli dip which were good, oily, yummy and horribly sinful.haha but they were nice and hot.

and that's us enjoying a drink in the house at night.the heating comes from this gas heater and the whole house is like some old european cottage, complete with the mattress heaters and huge backyard.pity it was raining and cold so we didnt get to explore.and oh, they forgot to tell us they turn off the boiler at a certain time so my sisters and parents had to boil water from the stove and use that to bath.LOL ! what an experience.
oh and the plane ride back was BAD.turbulence lasted half an hour, not surprising with all the rainy and stormy weather.

and finally, my buys for this trip ! i spent abt AZ$75 bucks on all that there, which is abt S$105.i guess living in australia is getting more and more expensive.

but anyway i enjoyed myself throughly and im ready for what's coming ! =)

ps: i spent more than an hour on this post (end time 11.50pm)

i heart
Duffy - Distant Dreamer

Even when you
See me frown
My heart
Won't let me down
Because I know
There's better things
To come

And when life
Gets tough
I feel
I've had enough
I hold on to
A distant star
