the never-ending bus ride which was TAIWAN
+ Hong Kong

PART II (16-22dec 08)

DAYSIX

we came to see the changing of guards but it was nothing spectecular after you've seen the real thing at buckingham palace. anyway we were doing jump shots, and my sis took this reallie weird picture of us. i guess it shld have been before we even lifted off lol.

lunch at 5-cent driftwood house, which is supposed to be a restaurant created with an underwater theme in mind. i dunno, i think if i had that theme in mind, my restaurant would have been different. but anyway the food wasnt bad. the whole restaurant was 5/6 levels high !

gu gong. the museum of never-ending stuff which we only spent at most 1.5h there. rushed thru everything. and it's even harder with ppl in the tour with young kids and all. i think most of the tour time was hindered by.. yeah.

zi you guang chang, where we spent a mere 15mins. i dunno what we were brought there for anyway. mom didnt get off the bus cos she had a headache. anyway those ppl behind were protesting against wild strawberries (?) and i have no idea what it's supposed to mean.

after visiting taipei101 which we rushed like mad around. gosh didnt even manage to buy anything except from the supermarket. anyway i like this tree :D

dinner at shilin ! went to queue for the HUGEEEEE chicken cutlet. gosh it's true, shilin (in singapore) cheats your money! and the oyster omelette was super yummy too.

while walking around shilin, there was this whole area which sold pets ! the puppies were super super cute omg. and so were the cats ! and guess what, they even sold pigs ! lol, there were hedgehogs, spiders and lizards too.

so that marks the end of tw ! seems like i hardly did anything in those 7days. actually come to think of it we only had 5 full days there, the first was the day we arrived (more like night) and the last was the day we flew to hk. funny.

hk was quite okay, but sad too, to see my grandpa having lost so much weight and my grandma having gained alot (but not for good reasons i think). guess we gotta go back more often. but we met with our cousins in hk after so many years. i rmb the last time my dad and both his brothers were back in hk at the same time was when i was at my grandpa's 80th birthday celebrations. that was like in sec2 omg.

anyway here's pictures from hk :

guess you guys shld have seen this on my blog before. but if you havent, it's you tiao wrapped in chee cheong fun, and it's called (in canto) za leong. supposed to dip it in sauce and eat it. anyway my mom doesnt reallie like it, but the rest of us do :)

the cablecar at nongping. it's the first time we took it (we wanted to last year but luckily we didnt cos the wind caused the cars to malfunction) and i guess it was okay. it was more of wanting to visit the temple on top which we did years ago, before this whole cablecar was built and the whole place became commercialized.

mai ya tang, old style. actually, it's just mai ya tang sandwiched in biscuits, which i dunno why we cant make at home. shld be simple, no?

and some old sweet they used to sell in hk, it's like reallie fine sugar plus some coconut wrapped in popiah skin. kinda nice, and reallie delicate.

lunch at ajisen ! mom and i actually wanted to try it the day before the day before we actually had it. but ppl were still queuing to eat at 930pm. so yeah forget it. ajisen is cheaper there though. and their menu is different !

baileys ice cream, but nothing beats the real deal :)

dinner with my cousins the night they arrived. this was the night after guo dong. anyway my grandpa was in hospital so he wasnt there. and he also couldnt make it for guo dong were we had this massive dinner (4 tables) of all the ppl in the tang family. like ppl from canada and australia even came back. no one told us it was gonna be such a large affair :\ and i wore crap there.

tang yuan !

deco in the shopping centre linked to our hotel, reallie cute.

and another, looks yummy :)

my cousins and grandma. she put on so much weight in a matter of 6months, reallie freaky. and she eats alot.

the never-ending bus ride which was TAIWAN

PART I (11-15dec 08)

well well. i guess taiwan wasnt what i expected ! after finally visiting it, i think i would prefer korea (loves!) or hong kong. the tour was pretty tiring having to wake up at 5am almost everyday (the latest was 6am), and change hotel every night. and yes, tons of long bus rides and hours spent in the coach. thank goodness i didnt get motion sickness. the weather was okay though, not hot not cold. anyway shall let the pictures do the talking :)

after arriving at taipei after something like 8h (6h flight, 2h transit), the itinery was supposed to be go back to hotel and rest. but guess what, they decided to squeeze in the high speed rail + ximenting. imagine that. i dont think my shopping instincts were awake like after the trip and right at the start of the trip. haha.

DAYONE

the high speed rail board. first picture in tw.

at the train platform at taoyuan. looking super tired here.

the mee sua which was DAMN GOOD.though there was no oyster, but wow the stock was super yummy. and it was warm :)

a glimpse of ximenting with xmas lights and all.

DAYTWO

next morning, dan shui lao jie. and everything was closed cos it was like super early. so yes we got a tour of the closed shops and empty street.

at yu ren ma tou, where they filmed meteor garden apparently. okay i didnt watch that. and the picture turned out kinda gloomy but i rmb the weather was okay !

yeliu, with rocks shaped like stuff you imagine them to be. i think this one's kinda clear cut :)

and lots of mushroom shaped rocks. can you see one shaped like a queen's head?

moonsunfish! and see they even harvest the huge eyeballs of fishes. ew.

DAYTHREE

bad memory. cant rmb where we were at all. but it was a gloriously hot day.

we walked all the way to the buildings just to take pictures. hmmmm. which didnt turn out very nice (hence they are not here hahah)

and i cant rmb this night market's name. was it feng jia? or the other one. oh well. it was super crowded cos it was a saturday. totally madness !

DAYFOUR

alishan ! it wasnt what i expected it to be though.. i always had the impression it would be snow capped and super cold. but it was just trees and more trees. hmmmmm. it was cold but still okay.

and they grow wasabi there ! wasabi plants look kinda hideous, no?

that's one dog (yes, it's not a mini pig) which had too much to eat, too little exercise, and wayyy to much conserved fat. we suspect it's a chihuahua.

that night, we stayed at a hot spring area, but the hot spring was.. like a swimming pool/waterfall/cave-like structure. and open to everyone. mom decided that it's not gonna be any fun having to sit in the dirty water with everyone else. esp ppl with skin disease :\

DAYFIVE

sunmoonlake ! pretty place, but we didnt reallie manage to go near it. i think it was kind wasted considering we travelled damn far to get there.

and yes, the one and only taiwan sausage we had the whole trip ! as compared to here, our sausage has fat blended into it but their fat is left in bits and pieces. so when you bite, you can actually chew the fat pieces one by one. i dunno which is better, but the one we had there had a crispier skin.

some aboriginal cultural centre cum theme park. we sat on this space ride which was kinda tame except that it was dark (and i hate dark rides cos i cant see what's ahead). but much tamer than the one in blackpool. anyway mom screamed so much even when the ride had stopped.

we took the cablecar up to the aboriginal village to watch their performance. hmm i guess it was just okay.

and another night market ! it's the other one of those two which i mentioned earlier. the chou tofu was nice ! crispy skin and wasnt smelly at all. mom even ate despite her inability to accept them hahaha.

and possibly, the nicest hotel room in the whole trip ! honestly we didnt actually have time to enjoy our hotels at all; merely a place to put luggage down, watch some tv while drying hair, sleep and go off the next day. my sis had a little place to herself, like a tatami bed :)

to be cont ..

christmas this year was more of a family affair. with my grandma in singapore, plus my uncle from the us here too. considering i met with my 2 uncles and my cousins in hk before we came back too. so it's as good as meeting everyone this time round ! though not as glitzy as last year (xmas spent in hk), it's a good change :)

sakae sushi delivery ( they ran out of pizza so we had to get ala carte)

whole turkey from cold storage (there's still half left)

fruit salad which my uncle made

raspberry trifle which i made :)

(not in picture)
mom's cheng teng which was nice too !
family picture :D

been too lazy to post the tw and hk photos, need to consolidate and qc first ;p

i heart
Duffy - Distant Dreamer

Even when you
See me frown
My heart
Won't let me down
Because I know
There's better things
To come

And when life
Gets tough
I feel
I've had enough
I hold on to
A distant star
